I came across this comment on this thread. I’ve come across it a bit recently, so I thought I’d post on it here.
"I am a seeker of truth and if you have the truth I will get to it eventually but if you are in possesion [sic] of the truth why have you attempted to disprove my thoughts on this rather than enlightening me?"
If you want to know the truth, Jesus said:
I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
He said, clearly that He is the truth.
OK, so I’ve simplified this somewhat. But here is a very real promise: If you really want to know God, you simply can’t start with unbelief. You must have some disposition to the reality of God.
Once you are over that, you need to have some expectation that He rewards those who seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6 says:
“Whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.”
The ramifications of this are huge. To really know God, you must put aside your preconceived ideas about Him and seek Him earnestly. That is, you will need to ask Him to reveal Himself to you.
Putting aside preconceived ideas does not mean that you put your brain aside. What it means is that you must realise that your finite mind simply cannot know all that you need to know to discern his existence. Because God is spirit (John 4:24) you cannot expect to intellectually grasp him, anymore than consulting an encyclopaedia will help you explain the feelings of being in love. But if you refuse to put aside your preconceptions about who God is, then no amount of seeking will allow to you find a real god who fits your preconceptions and truly satisfies your soul.
God does reward those who seek Him. He doesn’t reward it with riches, fame or wisdom, but he rewards it by revealing Himself to the seeker. The Bible is Gods revelation (revelation meaning self revealing) – grab it, read it.
“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” – John 8:31-32
Read the Bible, without looking to vindicate your preconceptions, asking God to reveal himself to you and if you earnestly and honestly seek Him, He will be found.
